Masterplanning

Masterplanning is a key part of the work that we do and often this relates to more strategic advice that we give clients in both the public and private sectors.

The creation of new places and redevelopment within communities is a fundamental part of sustainable place making and requires design consideration at all levels. Progressing innovatively and effectively through the design process from site analysis and selection, briefing and design development, within a wider design team, helps define the quality of the buildings and places we create.

Much of the work we have been involved with includes reviews of complex acute hospital sites where strategies have to be identified to allow the longer term and incremental development of the sites. During this process there is a need to maintain continuity of healthcare services alongside proposals for radical site redevelopment. This could include both new build and the refurbishment of retained estate. At all times we are striving to place-make sustainably for the long term, while taking into account strategic goals such as net zero carbon targets. Other masterplan projects have included site rationalisation to create disposal opportunities and introduce a richer and more sustainable mix of development for communities.
